When Is Sinus Surgery Needed?
At the New York Sinus Center, sinus surgery is never the first treatment option. We only recommend surgery after extensive medical therapy, lifestyle changes, allergy testing and treatment (if needed), and daily nasal cleansing have not resolved the issue. Our approach is conservative and personalized, ensuring that all non-surgical avenues are explored first.
Results You Can Expect
Each patient’s outcome varies, but most people with chronic sinusitis report significant improvement after surgery. Common benefits include easier breathing, less mucus, reduced pain and pressure, better sense of smell and taste, fewer infections, and even improvement in asthma or chronic cough. Some patients experience complete resolution of their symptoms.
Minimally Invasive Sinus Surgery
Outpatient Procedure With Same-Day Discharge
Minimal Swelling, Bruising, or Discomfort
No Nasal Packing Typically Required
Back to Work in 3–4 Days for Most Patients
Recovery and Ongoing Care After Sinus Surgery
Sinus surgery often provides long-term relief, but continued care—such as nasal rinses, allergen avoidance, and reflux management—is still essential. Recovery is usually smooth, with temporary congestion, sore throat, or light bleeding in the first few days. Follow-up visits over the next few months help monitor healing, and medications like antibiotics or steroids may be used. Patients should avoid flying for at least two weeks after surgery.
